Does it match what you observe in practice? Our PC replacement cycle is about 4-5 years, so I am planning all batteries w. An HP article said laptop battery lifespan is about 2-4 years. How do you manage budget for laptop replacement batteries? Best Practices & General IT.I have Nics from each server plugged into both switches and use LAG in VMware and tag all the vlans on each link and the are available to all VMs. Those are plugged into the core switch from there via PortChannel / LAG. My servers are still running on 2 separate sg350s. I may try one of those Junipers out soon though. Older HW even though it takes the new firmware did not get fixed by the patches, so I bought a few sg350s and the problem went away (forget the older HW version, I think anything labled 2024, etc. Just found the sx300_fw-1486.ros and hopefully it fixes the VoIP issues.

SHOULD I HOTSWITCH INTO THE CORE UPDATE

No problems with my Sony IP cameras after the 2nd to last FW update sx300_fw-1475.ros. The last 2 sg300 firmwares have made them more stable with the cameras but VoIP still has issues once in awhile (Avaya on vs 9). The sg300s sometimes kill off parts of our VoIP and IP security camera networks. I ripped out the whole network really and also moved core layer 3 routing between 7 VLANS off our Sophos Firewall and onto the Cisco, and moved the firewall to next hop and so all that OSPF stuff was new to me. Those port channels I have connected to some sg300 and now the sg350 using LAGS and it is working pretty well. I have 2 x 3850 stacked with port channels spanning the switches. I had a cisco nerd come help me as I was accustomed to the sg300s. I did the same as overlock and replaced my core sg300 with some 3850s about 3 years ago as my smartnet just came up for renewal. Provided you are comfortable with CLI, it's a solid investment. Love the 3850 so far, and I think it's a great core switch option for the price and capabilities. I have setup port channels to span across the stack for the servers and access switches, and it handles them like a champ (I have Spiceworks forums to thank for that tip a ways back). One of my favorite things on it is the port-channeling capabilities. I also connected my servers using standby ethernet adapters (separate server nics), into 2 of my access switches in my server room. I wanted to ensure I could completely lose one core switch and not skip a beat with respect to routing and traffic delivery.

SHOULD I HOTSWITCH INTO THE CORE FULL

Similar to what you are wanting to do, I have all of our server appliances and access switches redundantly uplinked into both core switches for full redundancy. Our two 3850's have all the VLANS and routing (using SVI's) defined on them.

I just added a 4 x 10G expansion board to mine. The expansion module is great, and there are quite a few expansion board options. You may decide to go with the non SFP 3850 Ethernet model which is Ethernet, but still includes some 10G uplinks. It was extremely easy to setup, and logically, I see one CORE switch with double the amount of ports when I sign onto it. I've got em fully wired up for total redundancy. If I recall correctly, they came with the thick stacking cables for both power and data stacking. I went with the all SFP Cisco 3850-12X-S 元 switch, and stacked 2 of them. Was in the same position as you about 1 year ago. In short, I'd strongly suggest checking out the Juniper EX line! We have had a few strange issues with our SG500 stacks, including a memory corruption issue that Cisco has not been able to solve and will bring down our head office stack every few months if I don't proactively reboot the whole stack once every 6 weeks (Cisco has actually replaced all switches in the stack and verified our configuration, but the issue remains). While the SG and its cli mostly worked for us, I much prefer using an OS that is trusted enough to run on carrier grade gear. They are a bit more expensive than the SG line, but they run the same OS/CLI as Juniper's top end switches (Junos) unlike the Cisco SG line that uses a dumbed down cli that appears to have come from Linksys. They have everything we need for this site including basic 元 features and stacking (Juniper calls this Virtual Chassis). So far, at a smaller site I'm setting up 2 EX3300 and I love them. We use SG500 and SG300 at a few sites, but we're starting to switch over to Juniper EX switches.

If you wanna stay with the SG line, go for the 350 or 550 lines. Stay away from the SG500 line, they just announced EOL for that line.
